Replaced Frank’s Xbox 360

Just bought a new Xbox 360 and Madden ’09 for my brother Frank.  His house was broken into a few days ago and they made off with that amongst some other things.  Probably some stupid kids from what was taken, so hopefully they’ll get caught.  It was Anthony’s idea to buy him a new system.

It’s really ashame you can’t go Charles Bronson on them and take the law into your own hands.  Well at least we were able to replace most of the stuff that was taken.

The World Ends with You

The World Ends with YouJust finished playing The World Ends with You for the DS.  It’s one of the better games I’ve played in a while.  Very original game, not just another sequel.  The production values were top notch, some of the best graphics I’ve seen on the DS and the original music was really impressive.  It’s amazing how much work is put into some handheld games now.

A lot of work was put into the story, with a lot of surprises and along the way.  It style was a bit too teenish for me at times, but I’m probably too old to still be playing these games anyway.  The dual screen battles, while confusing at first were well done.  Controlling the bottom screen with the stylus while taking control of the top screen using the directional pad was a really slick idea.

Definitely one of the better RPG’s I’ve played in a long time.  Very refreshing to play something so new and original, instead of another Final Fantasy RPG (though they are usually great games).

Rockin’ Out with Guitar Hero III

Guitar HeroThe Shepherd and I have caught the Guitar Hero virus. Sadly I think it might consume the Shepherd. He has Guitar Hero III for the Wii and I picked up the Aerosmith editon (not a big fan of them, but the guitar looks really cool).

Shepherd and I were playing 2 player co-op and ran through it on easy mode. If was a furious exchange of guitar playing. With most songs finished in the upper 90% rate of notes hit. I think we should think about starting a band or something. We could bring our plasitc guitars and play in front of packed stadiums.

For reasons neither of us can understand, the Shepherd must’ve used the phrase “rocked out” way too many times. Though we did truly rock out.

Battalion Wars 2

Battalion Wars 2Just finished up playing through the campaign mode of Battalion Wars 2 for the Wii.  It’s a war strategy game with a fun setting.  Wasn’t exactly sure that war could be made to be fun, but they developers pulled it off.  I’ve always been a big fan of the strategy games.

While this game is better than the the previous installment on the GameCube, it didn’t necessarily break any new ground.  Though that’s not necessarily a bad thing, as the whole gameplay is very polished.  Easy for a beginner to pick up, while also being challenging enough for a more seasoned gamer.

The various campaigns which have you playing from the various sides helps keep the game fresh.  It’s cool to play from the bad guys (Xylvanians) point of view.  Overall a very cool game.  I haven’t had a chance to play the online portions of the game yet, so I’ll have to give that a shot when I get some free time.

Final Fantasy III

Final Fantasy IIISquare finally released Final Fantasy III in the US on the DS a year or so ago. I grew up playing the Final Fantasy games and was glad to finally have the chance to play it as it was only released in Japan back in 1990. All the graphics had been redone for the DS and the game looked great.

They sure don’t make RPG’s this difficult anymore. I just barely beat the final boss, thought it had me. The job system was very cool, and must’ve been an amazing addition when this game was originally released in 1990.

Okami

OkamiFinished playing maybe the best game nobody has heard of, Okami.  Visually it was one of the coolest games I’ve ever played.  The art is all done in a watercolor technique, it’s very unique and pretty cool to look at.  The story is loosely based on Japanese fairy tales.

The games plays very similar to a Zelda game.  At first it was a little awkward for me, it uses the Wii remote to mimic drawing brush techniques on the screen.  At first the gestures were a bit awkward for me, but after playing it a bit they became second nature.

This was an amazing game, and is highly recommended.  Issun is a noble little guy.
