Don’t Deport my Dad

My Mom asked me to help them with something today (some of the scariest words I can hear). Apparently my Dad’s Green Card is too old or expired for him to be issued a new drivers license by the Garden State. Since I’m a web developer my parents think I can magically touch a computer and immediatley gain access to anything in the world (that would be a cool super power).

Green CardAfter much searching (uscis.gov your site sucks) I finally found the document he needs to fill out. Of course when I try and print it (I think they believe I can also make documents just appear with my computer super powers, but I won’t ask) my inkjet I use for text documents is dry.

So I turn to my trusty and very very dusty photo printer (which I hate using on non-photo prints) and 2 of it’s 7 ink tanks are dry. Luckily I have some fresh ink on hand and install them without a hitch. However it won’t load the paper correctly. Just refuses to take a sheet of paper. I’m beginning to hope that maybe my Dad might enjoy moving back to Italy, this just doesn’t seem to want to work.

Finally got the printer to take the paper by manually ever so gently feeding the sheet myself. Wound up spending over 2 hours tonight to print 6 wonderfully written pages prepared by the United States Center for Immigration Services. That’s my exciting adventure for today.

Chef Charles’ & Asian Market

Just finished off a Piggy Plate platter at Chef Charles’ Kitchen in EHT. Very good food, but I’m really, really stuffed. Ate way too much. Highly recommend food.

After that Mr. Yuk-Yuk thought we should go to the Asian Market in Pleasantville to buy some dish washing detergeant. I wish I brought my camera. The seafood section of the market is very cool. There’s fish everywhere. The big head fish were awesome! Felt like I was at an aquarium, not a market. I can’t imagine bringing home a fish the size of Shamu for dinner.

Peanut Butter Crackers

Just walked over to the cafeteria at work and got some Herr’s Toasty Peanut Butter Sandwiches crackers. Quite the tasty treat!

Passage through the cafeteria at these hours can be treacherous. However with a bit of luck on my side today, I was able to make it through with crackers in hand.

Lunch App

club sandwichBeen working on creating an App (very raw testing version) that assists in choosing where someone should go for lunch (or dining anywhere really). Makes heavy use of Yahoo! Local API. Got the basic REST query working, just have to start working on the UI and slick it up a bit. The whole latitude and longitude and distance information returned opens up some pretty cool options.

Dream Land is Safe Again

Purchased Kirby’s Adventure for the Virtual Console on the Wii. The only Kirby game I ever played previous to this one was Kirby’s Canvas Curse on the DS, which was a very innovative game so I wanted to give this old NES release a shot.

Beat if fairly quickly (around 90%), but it was fun to play. Well worth the download, highly recommended.

YUI Version 2.20 released

The ninjas over at Yahoo! released version 2.20 of YUI (Yahoo User Interface). They changed the versioning track, hence the jump from v0.12.2 to v2.20. This release has some really nice additions that I think will be extremely useful for buiding some web apps.

Browser History Manager

As you probably know most web apps have some serious back/forward button issues in browsers. This release claims to make that work now across A-grade browsers. Haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but sounds very promising.

DataTable Control

This looks really cool. Adds sorting, searching, inline editing, and adjustment of presentation of a table just to name a few of it’s features. Very cool.

Button Control

Enables creation of rich buttons that act like traditional form buttons. Labels can differ from their values which is nice.
