Salem

Took a little road trip to Salem Community College in the pouring rain today. Managed to get myself quite lost on the way there too. Thanks to the man in Lukoil for the fine directions that got me there right on schedule.

It’s very different over there, almost like I was in a different state altogether. Many, many cows.

Finally got a chance to meet in person with the people that I’m working with. Good bunch. To conclude the meeting, we had a pizza party!

Surprise Party

Went to Andrew Leonard’s surprise 30th birthday party last night. He was genuinely surprised, which is rare at any surprise event I’ve ever been a part of.

It was held at Morton’s The Steakhouse in AC. Very nice place, don’t think I exactly fit their dress code, so I appreciate them not kicking me out. Good cake, very good cake.

Didn’t really know anyone there for the first bit so I kinda just stood in a corner. Eventually I warmed up a bit and actually moved from my stationary spot to speak to people. Nice to see a bunch of people I haven’t seen in a very long time.

Don’t Deport my Dad

My Mom asked me to help them with something today (some of the scariest words I can hear). Apparently my Dad’s Green Card is too old or expired for him to be issued a new drivers license by the Garden State. Since I’m a web developer my parents think I can magically touch a computer and immediatley gain access to anything in the world (that would be a cool super power).

Green CardAfter much searching (uscis.gov your site sucks) I finally found the document he needs to fill out. Of course when I try and print it (I think they believe I can also make documents just appear with my computer super powers, but I won’t ask) my inkjet I use for text documents is dry.

So I turn to my trusty and very very dusty photo printer (which I hate using on non-photo prints) and 2 of it’s 7 ink tanks are dry. Luckily I have some fresh ink on hand and install them without a hitch. However it won’t load the paper correctly. Just refuses to take a sheet of paper. I’m beginning to hope that maybe my Dad might enjoy moving back to Italy, this just doesn’t seem to want to work.

Finally got the printer to take the paper by manually ever so gently feeding the sheet myself. Wound up spending over 2 hours tonight to print 6 wonderfully written pages prepared by the United States Center for Immigration Services. That’s my exciting adventure for today.

Chef Charles’ & Asian Market

Just finished off a Piggy Plate platter at Chef Charles’ Kitchen in EHT. Very good food, but I’m really, really stuffed. Ate way too much. Highly recommend food.

After that Mr. Yuk-Yuk thought we should go to the Asian Market in Pleasantville to buy some dish washing detergeant. I wish I brought my camera. The seafood section of the market is very cool. There’s fish everywhere. The big head fish were awesome! Felt like I was at an aquarium, not a market. I can’t imagine bringing home a fish the size of Shamu for dinner.
