Cow Licks Updates

Just wrapping up some site additions for Cow Licks Kids Salon.

Slideshow

The client wanted a slideshow of images that they would be able to update and add images to.  So I created a pretty cool looking slideshow using Flash ActionScript 3.0.  It’s pretty cool.  It calls in the the images to be loaded through an xml file which the client can manipulate to alter the slideshow.  To reduce load time, each image is loaded a few seconds before it’s to appear on the stage.

Parties Page

The client wanted to expand their offerings on their fast growing parties that they are offering.  Geoff came up with a slick design for the client which I was able to turn into a tabbed interface.  The tabs was built on YUI TabView.  YUI is a great library, and probably my favorite Javascript library out there now.  The site makes heavy use of YUI throughout.

Contact Form

Added a contact form to the site for users to contact the client.  It’s a pretty basic contact form written in PHP with some basic form validation thrown in there too.

WordPress CMS

Converted the existing static site over to WordPress to serve their CMS needs.  The client can now login to an admin app and make basic content changes on their own, without the need to FTP or pay someone else for basic site changes.

MooNews

Added a MooNews area on the homepage for the client to easily add latest news to their site via the newly installed CMS.

Added Stuff to Work Page

Finally added some things I’ve worked on in the past the the work page of this site. Right now I broke things up into four categories:

  • websites
  • interactive projects
  • animations
  • videos
Dug up a lot of things I made years ago and forgot all about.  There’s some cool stuff scattered in there.

Final Fantasy III

Final Fantasy IIISquare finally released Final Fantasy III in the US on the DS a year or so ago. I grew up playing the Final Fantasy games and was glad to finally have the chance to play it as it was only released in Japan back in 1990. All the graphics had been redone for the DS and the game looked great.

They sure don’t make RPG’s this difficult anymore. I just barely beat the final boss, thought it had me. The job system was very cool, and must’ve been an amazing addition when this game was originally released in 1990.

Huge Moth

Giant MothJust saw the biggest moth I’d ever seen. Stood up from my desk to take a gander out the window and noticed something pretty big stuck to the screen on Sean’s window. At first I just asked him if he had a leaf stuck between his window and the screen. Upon closer inspection it turned out to be a huge moth. I took a pretty bad photo with my phone, but it might give you an idea of just how big it was.

We opened up the window and set the massive moth free.

$700 gag gift

Scientology PaintingI had the day off on Thursday, and the college was having a rummage sale. So since I wasn’t around Sean thought it’d be funny if he bought the most hideous thing possible and placed it in my office while I was away. Apparently Brittney who was taking part in the great rummage sale let Sean know that they had just the perfect thing to place in my office.

As of this writing I still haven’t seen it, but apparently it was some hideous looking painting by some well known Scientologist or something.  This fine work of art was purchased at the rummage sale for $5.  Out of curiosity the painting was then researched online.  Apparently this appalling gag gift fetches around $700!

Not a bad profit.  Looks like somebody didn’t do their homework before selling off this exquisite piece of Scientology art.  The painting has plans of being sold with the profits going to a noble cause.

Okami

OkamiFinished playing maybe the best game nobody has heard of, Okami.  Visually it was one of the coolest games I’ve ever played.  The art is all done in a watercolor technique, it’s very unique and pretty cool to look at.  The story is loosely based on Japanese fairy tales.

The games plays very similar to a Zelda game.  At first it was a little awkward for me, it uses the Wii remote to mimic drawing brush techniques on the screen.  At first the gestures were a bit awkward for me, but after playing it a bit they became second nature.

This was an amazing game, and is highly recommended.  Issun is a noble little guy.
